TEACHING VIBE

What brought you to yoga? We love a good origin story.

I was crushed when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. I had always been active and healthy, so I couldn’t imagine what I had done wrong. That news came to me just three months after my husband’s life-changing serious burn injury, making for quite a second year of marriage. I started practicing yoga on a regular basis in 2009. I enjoyed not just the physical part of the practice, but the break it gave my mind and the boost it brought to my self-confidence. The only real issue was that my breast form kept slipping out of my top! But I felt so strong, free and even beautiful in class that one day I finally tossed it to the side of my mat. When no one seemed to notice or care, I realized that a yoga studio was a sacred space, indeed.

How would you describe your teaching flow?

I love leading a mindful, accessible sloooow flow, with lots of breath awareness.

Music Preferences? What is always on your playlist? Favorite artist?

Everything from the likes of MC Yogi, DJ Taz, David Starfire, and DJ Drez, to natural sounds like spring peepers and wind chimes.

What was your most memorable yoga experience?

when I ditched my breast form during class

Any teacher shoutouts? Favorite yoga teacher?

I've been inspired in some way by every teacher I've worked with, but there's a special place in my heart for the teachers at Open Doors Yoga Studios <3.

FAVORITES

Place on Earth: Vermont! We are renovating a home and farm property there, and it's where our two pet cows, Blossom and LouLou, graze and goof off for the camera.
Radio station: VPR. It helps me stay up-to-date, educated, and entertained.
Yoga props: Cork mats and blocks from Yoloha. They are sustainable, comfortable, attractive, and a joy to use.
Mode of transport: My yellow Jeep Wrangler. With it's fun stickers ("like Jeepsy Soul" and "Lovermont") it just makes me smile.
